In my younger days, (a thousand years ago), I used to celebrate my birthday for weeks before and after the actual event.
This year, I didn’t even remember until yesterday that the auspicious occasion was so close.
When we were kids, our parents would give “unbirthday presents” to the siblings who weren’t actually having a birthday so we wouldn’t feel left out.
Today’s one small goal involved taking the trash downstairs.
As I was coming back home, I discovered Miss Li’l had stowed away in my pocket, so I gave her an opportunity to indulge in my “unbirthday present” — the sight and scent of orange blossoms in our garden.
There was only one opened up, but we sniffed it until I sneezed.
Sometimes, the best things in life are free.
See you tomorrow!
