We applaud, most raucously, the frontline workers of healthcare on Thursday nights. Even though it’s not “customary” in Cyprus to do so, every week at 8 pm I go out on my balcony nonetheless and clap into the stillness of the darkened streets.
But on Wednesdays, silence is broken here by the rumbling of the rubbish collectors. I hurried out last night as I heard them drive down my block, so I could verbalize my gratitude to them, in my limited Greek, for the superlative, tireless, mostly thankless work they carry out.
Efcharisto file scoupidia ~~ Thank you, rubbish man!
