Cooking Up a Storm

This weekend in Cornwall the sun has gone. Through my kitchen window, I notice my neighbour defying the rain as he shelters under his garage door. He’s making a kitchen unit on a makeshift workshop on the back of his little boat. To the sound of a jigsaw tool, the plywood lies perched, waiting to be what it will be. So perfect, patient and precise.

On the other side, my living room window shows the clouds are cooking up a storm. The boat lovers long headed for cover leaving the sky to its own devices. Witnessing the unfolding ingredients of a very wet weekend. So dramatic, deep and dense.

As the recent open skies now close over, it’s beginning to feel colder – and slower.

Time now, it says, to stop. Time now, it says, to rest.

Time now, it says, to snuggle on the sofa under a cosy blanket and let the world roll on by ?
